Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have discovered numerous entertaining creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game includes a protagonist that is literally a turd attempting to make its way to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

How you interact is easy to grasp: just use a single jump button. In one hundred fifty levels, encounter tough enemies and unlock a market to acquire skins for your dung hero.

Plan your jumps with caution, since one error means starting over. Bounce off bubbles to launch your character to new heights, cross crumbling ledges, and interact with switches to unlock new areas. Gather UN-KOINS to purchase more difficult stages where things intensifies.

Graphically, the demo boasts vibrant stages and an amazing background music. The retro graphics with shifting abstract forms could recall players of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's hard to recall similar titles where you play as a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often featured scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players create grenades from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present a lot in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly premise, Unko Technica has already garnered significant recognition, like winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. The demo is available at present on Steam, with the final release planned to arrive on computers this November.
